Kristen Eckmann moved from Bangor to Mid-Coast Maine in 2005 to immerse herself in a Maine contemporary art scene.  She possesses more than 20 years of progressive experience in the art field.
 
Kristen’s professional history includes working as a curator at Intown Art Center and Gallery and overseeing Special Exhibitions at Detroit Institute of the Arts.  She holds multiple degrees in Studio Arts:  Papermaking, silk screening, sewing, painting, drawing, studio skills and building maintenance.  Eckmann also has extensive experience as a fitness instructor, organizing/developing/running a sports league, fundraising, community and public relations.
 
Kristen Eckmann took a break from studio work to raise her two children, start a roller derby league, finish her Native Shamanic training, and build a roller derby management company, Maine United Roller Derby.  
 
She is now working to develop a new body of work that honors the feminine as a guide for wisdom and promote peace in the times we are facing in our political climate… Honoring Women For The BADASSES They ARE YO!
